There is something rather magical about wrapping up warm, heading out after dark and following thousands of twinkling lights through the winter landscape. This Christmas, one of Merseyside’s most popular festive experiences is returning, and it has been completely reimagined for 2026.
Enchanted at Knowsley Safari returns from 20 November to 23 December 2026, bringing with it a brand-new nature and wildlife-inspired light trail, enormous illuminated installations, an original soundtrack, festive food, marshmallow toasting and, of course, a visit from Santa himself.
This year’s experience promises to be bigger, brighter and more immersive than before, while placing the natural world at the heart of the festivities.
Here’s what families can expect from Enchanted at Knowsley Safari this Christmas.
A Brand-New Enchanted Light Trail for 2026
Rather than simply returning with the same displays, Knowsley Safari has created a new trail for Christmas 2026 inspired by the wildlife and natural landscapes that surround the attraction.
The after-dark adventure begins from 4pm, when visitors will enter beneath an enormous illuminated silhouette moon before making their way through trees decorated with thousands of glistening lights.
Look down and you’ll find another clue to the trail’s wildlife theme.
Glowing tiger paw prints will guide visitors towards the Tiger Trail, which will be transformed into an illuminated forest for the evening.
During the daytime, this is where visitors might encounter Knowsley Safari’s Amur tigers Yuki, Akira and Makari. After dark, the animals themselves won’t be part of the light trail, but sharp-eyed visitors will instead discover glowing tiger eyes hidden within the landscape.
It is a lovely way of keeping the Safari’s wildlife identity at the heart of an event that could otherwise simply be another Christmas light trail.
Giant Bees, Dragonflies and Six-Metre Chandeliers
The wildlife theme continues as families make their way through the experience.
One of the new installations is an enormous insect hotel populated by oversized illuminated bees and dragonflies, bringing some of the natural world’s smallest inhabitants to a rather spectacular scale.
From there, the trail becomes increasingly theatrical.
Expect shimmering disco balls, colour-changing arches and enormous six-metre-high chandeliers, alongside rhododendrons picked out in festoon lighting.
A huge illuminated Christmas tree forms one of the centrepieces of the experience, complete with lights and oversized baubles.
We suspect this particular spot will become one of the most popular family photo opportunities of the evening.
An Original Soundtrack Created for Enchanted
It isn’t only the visuals that have been redesigned.
Knowsley Safari has commissioned an original soundtrack specifically for the 2026 Enchanted experience, creating a soundscape to accompany visitors as they move through the trail.
The combination of music, lighting and large-scale installations is intended to make the experience feel less like a collection of individual Christmas decorations and more like one continuous journey.
Visit the Winter Village
Once you’ve wandered beneath thousands of lights, the Winter Village provides somewhere to warm up.
The Bus Yard will be serving a suitably indulgent selection of festive food and drinks throughout the event.
Expect loaded Yorkshire pudding wraps, churros, candyfloss and festive hot chocolates, alongside seasonal cocktails for the grown-ups.
And then there is one of those simple Christmas activities that children seem to love regardless of age: marshmallow toasting.
There is usually an additional charge for marshmallow toasting, but families who book Enchanted before 1 November 2026 will receive free marshmallow-toasting tickets as part of their booking.
Meet Santa at Knowsley Safari
No Christmas event would feel entirely complete without an appearance from Father Christmas.
Santa’s Grotto returns for 2026 with an enhanced experience.
Families who pre-book the grotto will be welcomed by Santa’s elves before being taken to meet Santa himself.
The grotto is an optional addition to Enchanted, with Santa’s Grotto tickets starting from £21.50.
If meeting Santa is an important part of your visit, we would recommend booking early rather than assuming availability on the night.
Illuminated Rides and Amusements
The evening doesn’t have to finish when you’ve completed the light trail.
Knowsley Safari’s rides and amusements will remain open and illuminated during Enchanted, adding another element for children who aren’t quite ready to head home.
Rides and amusements carry additional charges, so it is worth factoring these into the cost of your evening when planning a visit.
SEN-Friendly Enchanted Evening
One particularly welcome addition to the programme is a dedicated SEN-friendly Enchanted evening on 9 December 2026.
The session has been designed to create a calmer and more comfortable environment for neurodivergent visitors and guests with disabilities.
Capacity will be reduced, while sound and lighting effects will be softened.
The rides will also remain closed during this particular evening, reducing additional noise and activity around the attraction.
It means families who might ordinarily find a busy Christmas light trail overwhelming have a dedicated opportunity to experience Enchanted with some of those sensory pressures reduced.
When Is Enchanted at Knowsley Safari 2026?
Enchanted runs from 20 November until 23 December 2026 inclusive.
The event takes place between 4pm and 9pm, allowing visitors to experience the trail once darkness has fallen.
The dedicated SEN-friendly evening takes place on 9 December.
Christmas events can become particularly busy during December weekends and once schools begin breaking up, so booking earlier may give you more choice of dates and times.
How Much Are Enchanted Tickets?
Tickets for the main Enchanted experience start from £9.95 per person.
Additional charges apply for rides, amusements and marshmallow toasting.
However, visitors booking before 1 November 2026 will receive complimentary marshmallow-toasting tickets.
Santa’s Grotto is booked separately, with tickets starting from £21.50.

Is Enchanted at Knowsley Safari Worth Visiting With Children?
For Liverpool families, one of the biggest advantages is simply how close it is.
There is no lengthy motorway journey or overnight stay required to experience a large-scale Christmas light trail. Instead, one of the region’s major festive attractions is right on Liverpool’s doorstep.
The new nature theme also gives Enchanted its own personality.
Rather than losing sight of where you are once darkness falls, the glowing tiger paw prints, enormous insects, illuminated forest and wildlife-inspired installations deliberately connect the Christmas experience to Knowsley Safari itself.
Younger children have the lights, Santa and marshmallows. Older children have the larger installations, rides and photo opportunities. Adults have festive food, seasonal cocktails and, hopefully, a few minutes to enjoy the lights themselves.
That makes it particularly well suited to families with children of different ages.
