Pizza, Plates and Prosecco: A true Italian Feast at Nonno’s Lark Lane

Strolling down Lark Lane, past the array of deli’s, bakeries, vintage clothes shops and vast variety of restaurants, representing different parts of the world, there’s no doubt that this place will forever be a truly special part of Liverpool. In keeping with the city’s ever-growing foodie scene, new and exciting places are opening up frequently, whether that’s a cosmopolitan cocktail bar or a venue of traditional Turkish Cuisine.

A couple of years ago, the street was raced with Nonno’s. Being created by the Maranto family, long standing advocates of Lark Lane, the restaurant prides itself on serving authentic Italian food in the form of their signature pizzas as well as exciting small plate options. Whether you’re coming in from the cold and tucking into a feast of Italian delights or are sitting out on the terrace for a cocktail or two, Nonno’s is a friendly, welcoming space to enjoy authentic food in Liverpool.

With the rise in demand for delicious Vegan and Veggie options on menu’s around Liverpool, we headed down to Lark Lane to try out Nonno’s latest offerings, with the fantastic chefs cooking us up a variety of Vegan and Vegetarian options as well as some of their mouthwatering classics, we couldn’t wait to give our verdict.

Heading into Nonno’s, we were given the option of a fruity glass of Sangria or a flute of Prosecco and shown to our table which was out in the glass covered terrace – the perfect setting for an evening meal. First out were some of Nonno’s small plate options, including fall-apart beef meatballs covered in huge flakes of Parmesan, a classic Caesar salad with crisp croutons and chunks of chicken as well as fish dishes of garlic prawns with plenty of bread to mop up the rich and flavoursome sauce and a light, crisp seabass with a rich Salsa Verde. Being a lover of the classics,  we couldn’t get enough of the fresh caesar salad and bowls of olives that covered the table but if you’re a lover of beef, don’t hesitate to order the tender, melt in the mouth meatballs completed perfectly with salty cheese.

Next up were the pizzas. We were treated to a range off the menu, including a meat feast option as well as all of the Veggie and Vegan choices, including a garlic pizza bread with Vegan cheese, a rocket and Parmesan topped thin crust and a vegan cheese with olives and balsamic onion – all of which were totally devoured by us all – the super thin base, delicious combination of toppings and super soft dough making them far too easy to eat. As if that wasn’t enough food, we were also treated to a couple more meat dishes including lamb, crushed potatoes and a tart raspberry sauce which tasted even better than it looked – food done well and truly right.

Sufficiently stuffed but eagerly awaiting dessert we were delighted to see Nonno’s had treated us to their Nutella and strawberry pizza. The same super soft dough topped with lashings of everyone’s favourite chocolate and huge strawberry slices. The dessert was washed down with some of Nonno’s fantastic, classic cocktail offerings – an Old Fashioned, Aperol Spritz and an ice cold Strawberry Dacquiri – which are only perfect for dessert but also ideal to sip on the terrace to celebrate the weekend in style.

If you haven’t already scoffed pizza and sipped cocktails at Nonno’s, you’re missing out on one of the best Lark Lane hang outs. Whether you’re after pizza and Prosecco, Italian tapas and a jug of Sangria or even a Nutella pizza and coffee, Nonno’s is a solid choice – just remember the elasticated waistband!
