A Very Christmassy Lunch with Whittard of Chelsea

With the iconic big tree alighting Liverpool one, the John Lewis advert pending and Christmas songs everywhere you turn, it’s fair to say that this year’s festivities are now in full swing – and we aint one bit mad. On Friday, we were invited to the ultimate Christmassy lunch, organised by Whittards in the beautiful Hard Days Night hotel – a venue held close to Liverpool’s heart.

Stepping off the busy street’s of Liverpool’s business district and straight into the grand reception area of the Hard Day’s Night, it was immediately clear we were in for a true Friday lunchtime treat. After being greeted by Whittards, we headed straight to the bar area of the hotel that had been transformed into a grotto packed full of Whittard Christmas treats, from Christmas flavoured coffee to white chocolate shortbread, indulgent fudge boxes, salted caramel hot chocolates, fragrant tins of Chai and even glittery tea leaves – and better still, we were able to choose four of Whittards beautiful products to take home for ourselves.

After some tough decision making, we headed through to the dining room, armed with goody bags of biscuits, tea and coffee. We joined other Liverpool Bloggers on a beautifully set out dining table and pulled our first crackers of the year as waited for afternoon tea to be served. As well as sampling some of Whittard’s Christmassy tea flavours (including their classic English Breakfast) we were also offered an unbelievably delicious list of speciality hot chocolates, opting for the nice but oh naughty White Praline which was sweet and nutty to taste served with marshmallows and a huge dollop of whipped cream.

Our afternoon tea was brought out on huge, tiered stands packed full of sweet treats, mini scones, pots of jam n cream and a huge array of mini sandwiches which included smoked salmon and cream cheese wheels and ham and mustard topped focaccia. Amongst the sweet treats were an array of Christmassy delights that included mini Christmas puddings complete with jugs of brandy cream as well as mini (and totally moreish) mince pies. It’s safe to say we well and truly indulged in the spirit of Christmas, just as we Brits know how.

After we’d eaten, chatted and eaten some more, we were treated to stories that revealed the origins of the Hard Days Night, showing us how lucky we are to have such a characterful venue on our doorstep. Being confined to the hour of lunch time, the time had well and truly flown over and it was time to head back to work, full belly and undone jeans in tow. We were handed another goody bag on our way out, this time a small token from the Hard Days Night themselves which included a super cute Penny Lane teddy and a fabulous cup and saucer – perfect for enjoying countless cups of our Whittards gifts.

A huge thank you to Whittards and the Hard Days Night for well and truly treating us at such brilliantly organised event packed full of delicious treats!
