The words bottomless and brunch have been creeping up on the Liverpool food scene more and more recently and not going to lie, we absolutely love the idea – delicious plates of food combined with unlimited Prosecco? Yes please. So when we were invited down to one of Liverpool’s best loved restaurants – Il Forno – to try out their new bottomless brunch concept – we couldn’t get there quick enough.
Running from 11am at the weekends, Il Forno have put their own spin on the bottomless brunch concept and gone are the standard poached eggs and avocado and instead are small plates of Italian goodness, from tomato Bruschettas all the way to Carbonara, matched, of course with unlimited glasses of bubbling Prosecco or red or white wine – depending on your preference. This, combined with the fantastically authentic interior of Il Forno makes for the perfect way to spend a Saturday morning and our experience was no exception.
Although a fantastic place to devour an evening meal, the glass-fronted building that houses Il Forno is perfect for letting in the natural morning light and walking in on a Saturday morning, we noticed just how much of a bright and open space the restaurant actually is. We were seated and straight away asked what we would like to drink (Prosecco, of course) and had the menu explained to us. The menu listed a range of Italian small plate dishes and we were told that along with our unlimited drinks, we could have three dishes from the menu. Like most Italian menu’s, everything sounded completely mouth-watering and after much deliberation, we whittled it down to Parmagiana, Ox-cheek risotto, two of the Bruschetta choices (tomato and chicken liver), the potato tortilla and a loaf of warm garlic Focaccia, topped with cheese. Just the small breakfast then.
The plates came out as and when they were ready which when sipping on Prosecco was a really nice touch as we didn’t feel rushed or overwhelmed. First out were the tomato Bruschettas, sweet and juicy cherry tomatoes on top of soft Charcoal bread drizzled with a rich olive oil. These were closely followed by the Aubergine Parmagiana which was packed full of cheesey, tomato-ey flavours and simply melted in the mouth. Following these was our soft, warm Focaccia topped with a generous helping of cheese which we pulled apart and scoffed immediately. If cheesey garlic bread had an upgrade.
Next out were the chicken liver Bruschetta’s – crunchy toast topped with the earthy flavours of chicken livers and a hint of garlic and white wine. To. Die. For. Our final dishes were the ox-cheek risotto who’s meat topping fell apart with the touch of a fork and the potato tortilla which was seasoned to perfection and drenched in a rich, Gorgonzola cheese sauce. And despite being ready to explode, the Prosecco still flowed, so at just £25 per person, the Il Forno bottomless brunch experience is not only indulgent and delicious but also amazing value for money. We finished off an amazing, traditional style feast with a big old bowl of Gelato.
The brand new Bottomless Brunch at Il Forno is not only a delicious way to experience the art of Italian fine dining but also the perfect setup for a boozy brunch with a group of friends or something different to celebrate a special occasion. So for a laid back style of dining and freely flowing wine in a true reflection of the Italian culture we all know and love, consider Il Forno for your next weekend brunch plans.
