Different Dog: We Put Liverpool’s Freshest Subscription Dog Food To The Test

We’ve had a lot of adjusting to do at Unlock Liverpool HQ this month, because we’ve welcomed a new member to the family.

Our new pup is a rescue dog who came to us through Carla Lane Animals in Need, the brilliant Liverpool-based charity that finds loving homes for dogs and cats across the region.

Like a lot of rescue dogs, she arrived with a sensitive tummy and needed a bit of extra care when it came to working out what to feed her, so the timing couldn’t have been better when we were contacted by Different Dog, who kindly sent us some meals to try with her.

For anyone who hasn’t come across it yet, Different Dog is a subscription dog food brand built entirely around freshness.

Rather than the tins and dry kibble you’ll find lining supermarket shelves, every meal is hand-cooked in small batches using human-grade ingredients, then frozen straight away to lock in the nutrients and flavor.

Everything on the menu is developed with vets and canine nutritionists, so you’re not just buying convenience; you’re buying meals that have actually been designed with a dog’s health in mind.

Getting started is refreshingly simple. You fill in a short questionnaire about your dog, covering things like their age, breed, weight and any sensitivities, and Different Dog uses that to put together a personalised plan.

You then choose from a rotating list of recipes, made with proteins like British beef, turkey, chicken and pork paired with vegetables, before picking a delivery schedule that suits you.

The meals arrive frozen at your door, and because portions are tailored to your dog, there’s very little guesswork involved in feeding them well.

Our pup took to her Different Dog meals brilliantly. Given she’s still settling into a new home and a new routine, we appreciated being able to ease her onto the food gradually rather than making an abrupt switch, and having a support team of nutritionists on hand for any questions gave us real peace of mind as new dog owners.

It’s clear this is a brand built for dogs with fussy palates or sensitive stomachs just as much as it is for owners who simply want to feed their four legged friend the best possible food.

If you’re thinking about switching your own dog onto fresher food, or you’ve recently taken on a rescue who needs a gentler introduction to a new diet, Different Dog is well worth a look. You can find out more, and start your dog’s own personalised plan, over on the Different Dog website.
