Jin Liverpool serves up a Chinese feast

A brand new Chinese fusion restaurant has opened in the Crowne Plaza in Speke and we are totally here for it. From salt and pepper tofu through to crispy duck pancakes and flavour infused popcorn, the menu is a true delight to the senses, making the whole evening not just a meal, but a total experience. And we were invited to try it out.

From the beautifully decorated tables to its serene atmosphere, Jin has got the balance between relaxed and fine dining just right. We were invited to sit in their luxurious VIP area which consists of a large, rotating table, absolutely perfect for parties and large groups eating out. The table is overlooked by a huge gold chandelier and whilst our host Dennis was preparing the final finishing touches, we were treated to a pot of Jasmine tea, a traditional Chinese appetiser.

The menu at Jin is well thought out and consists of traditional Chinese dishes whilst also catering for vegetarian eaters. The standout dish is the whole or half duck that can be ordered between 4 people (as long as it is requested in advance). The duck option includes crispy duck and pancakes with a number of traditional condiments and then a main duck course (we chose the salt n pepper duck as recommended). Having a veggie diner with us, we also opted for a veggie selection of vegetable spring rolls and two tofu dishes: salt n pepper and tofu with mushrooms accompanied by egg fried rice. For good measure, we also opted to try the crispy chilli beef – a favourite all round.

Whilst we waited for our dishes to arrive indulged in some popcorn, dusted in a little Chinese five spice, alongside glasses of white wine – a true mid-week treat. Presented beautifully, our starting courses started to arrive. The duck condiments were placed in the middle of the table and the duck itself was carved professionally at the side and served on a platter – ready to be wrapped in pancakes. For the main course, the duck was brought back out, but this time covered in delicious salt n pepper spices, served alongside our tofu and mushrooms as well as the crispy chilli beef and fried rice.

There was nothing that could be faulted about the food. From the tenderness of the duck to the beautifully marinated tofu and crispy vegetables, we thoroughly enjoyed every last mouthful, only stopping to top up our wine. Service was attentive but not too pushy and the overall atmosphere was relaxed and sociable – the rotating table a perfect way to make sure our banquet could be shared around. Definitely a dining experience to remember.

If you’re a lover of Chinese food and are looking for somewhere different to enjoy a meal, Jin Liverpool should be your next choice. Whether that’s a special date night for two or a family occasion or party, definitely give this place a whirl.
