Comfort food at its finest, Pieminister Liverpool cooks up good, honest, fuss-free food to warm the belly and bring a smile to your face. Serving a creative range of pie flavours, including traditional as well as something a little different, Pieminister have pulled out all of the stops when it comes to the season of goodwill and good food with their first Christmas on Bold street. Featuring the classics pigs in blankets, turkey, stuffing and parsnips as well as much-loved Halloumi fries and gin cocktails, this place is the Christmas treat everyone needs.
The Pieminister Christmas menu doesn’t just cater to lovers of a meat pie and as well, offers the ‘Christingle’ ‘parsnips, chestnuts, cheddar and leek) for the non-meat eaters and the ‘deep and crisp and Vegan’ (celeriac, vegan turkey and smoked garlic) as their brand new Vegan addition. Ordering your pie is simple, choose your flavour, choose your side and decide whether you would like mash or chips. Finally, choose your ‘stick’ (the pie’s topper). We chose the Vegetarian and Vegan pies, two lots of mash potato and sides of festive slaw and peas. To top the pies, we went for the veggie stick (stuffing ball, sweet chilli veggie sausage and a mini Yorkshire pud with Cranberry) and the Vegan topper (stuffing ball, sweet chilli glazed veggie sausage and cranberry sauce).
The Pieminister Christmas menu also comes complete with starters and these were a creatively delicious addition to the main event – battered cauliflower with a fragrant curry dip and everyone’s favourite Halloumi fries, smothered in sweet chilli. If you have room, these are a totally delicious must-try.
Our food arrived in no time at all and after demolishing our sharing starters and sippin’ on gin and vodka cocktails, we tucked straight into our pies – rest assured our rumbling bellies could rely on Pieminister to come through with the portion sizes as two pie towers were placed in from of us. With a creamy filling and flavours of Turkey and celeriac accompanied by a punchy addition of garlic, the shortcrust Vegan pie was a totally delicious and unique mixture of flavours and proof that once again, Vegan food isn’t as boring as some people still believe. The dishes provided all of the delights of a classic pie and mash, slightly crisped pastry softened with gravy on top of a mound of creamy mashed potato but with new, innovative flavours that became a true taste sensation when bundled together in a pie. This mixture of traditionalism and creativity is what is making Pieminister so increasingly popular on the Liverpool foodie scene.
After demolishing two pies with sides and a sharing board of starters, it was definite we could fit in a dessert. Well known for their Soft Serve Sunday’s, in the spirit of Christmas Pieminister have devised a Mince Pie soft serve, as well as delicious desserts of traditional chocolate sponge and sticky toffee pudding. The soft serve arrived inside a wafer and was topped with delicious mince pie filling and a buttery short bread biscuit – super simple but an excellent Christmassy take on their signature sweet treats.
