Vegan Dream at Down the Hatch

If you’ve been on a health kick, you’re a dedicated vegan or just new to the plant based diet, you’ll know what we’re talking about when we say cravings are a serious killer. Whether you’re eating clean, eating green or trying to get back into shape, staying on the right track is extremely difficult, especially as the winter months kick in and all you want is good old comfort food to make you feel warm inside. Now listen up, we’ve got some good news for you healthy nuts and gym bunnies, if you get that craving for junk food, a greasy side of fries or perhaps the ultimate burger, Down the Hatch in Liverpool are on your side! Serving up vegan and veggie junk food alternatives, they are becoming the go to restaurant for all Liverpool foodies who want to be naughty, without breaking their dedication.

Located on Duke Street, a couple of minutes from Liverpool One, get ready for junk food you can feel good about.

Down a couple of steps off Duke Street, Down the Hatch offers an intimate and cosy dining experience for Liverpool foodies. A family run business, the restaurant is often quite busy, due to their huge popularity among the vegan community in Liverpool. We’d recommend starting with a handful of their crunchy veggie starters such as the salted veg fritters, beer battered garlic mushrooms and the cauliflower five ways.

With a fresh cold slaw, side of sweet potato fries and a massive Michelangelo bean burger, we were impressed with the size of the meal, which is guaranteed to hit the spot. Digging in, we couldn’t quite get our heads around the fact that none of the food featured meat with some meals even being completely vegan.

According to the team, there is a new menu coming soon which promises bigger and better dishes, with even more vegan and veggie options and we can’t wait to try them! Now if you’re anything like us, when you see a vegan chocolate cake on the menu, there is no way in hell that you’re going to leave the restaurant without chocolate round your mouth. Just look at this naughty slice of chocolate cake and a dollop of vegan cream. I’m drooling just looking at it…

If you’re out and about in Liverpool city center, this week, be sure to head to Down the Hatch on Duke Street for delicious and vegetarian or vegan comfort food that will warm you up from the inside out.
