If you haven’t heard of The Alchemist before, you’re about to experience a little bit of madness. Located in the affluent business district of Liverpool, this swanky new cocktail bar and restaurant has brought something special to the city.
Kale Cocktail at The Alchemist
Perching myself on a leather bar stool, Mixologist Mathew Lynch showcased an array of imaginative cocktails starting with Beyond The Kale- a super food smoothie gone off the rails, followed by a rather sweet passion fruit number, topped with sugar beautifully caramelised in a dainty copper saucepan over a flame and finally ending with a teacup concoction.
Flavours from Your Childhood Cocktails
Ok, so I’m actually downsizing a number of cocktails that we actually tried. Let me explain how we simply couldn’t resist trying a LOT more than we first intended.
So after we’d been rather surprised with how nice the Kale cocktail was, we were prompted by Jenny Mcphee, Brand, Business Development Manager at The Alchemist to try her favourite cocktail, The Screwball, playfully named after the ice cream favourite. This cocktail transported me back to my 90s childhood, with the familiar jingle of the ice cream van and the creamy sweet swirls of a Screwball. This drink was tastefully adorned with a glace cherry, to represent the much-anticipated bubble gum ball that was left until the end of the Screwball, to be savoured once the soft swirls of vanilla ice cream had been devoured. Ladies, I think you’re going to love this one!
The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party Cocktail
Next we came face to face with The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. Watch as this incredible and imaginative drink is created from dry ice and syrups in front of your eyes. A tonic infused with fresh summer fruits, created with no more than a scientific flask and measuring jug, balanced above a flickering flame. Watch in delight as fantasy comes to life.
So if you fancy not only a sweet drink but a performance to go with it, you should definitely order our favourite cocktail at The Alchemist in Liverpool.
After the smoke cleared, we were left with a tea cup filled to the brim with a softly scented liquid. Lifting the cup to my lips, I half expected it to be warm. The aroma from the smoke filled me with a calming sensation and we spent the evening slowly enjoying this elegant drink.
